The lesson is….

So I have never recorded anything to soundcloud. I am using an iPad and could not find a single app to use that would export to soundcloud so I ended up using voicememo on my phone and exporting that to google drive and importing that to soundcloud. It was extremely frustrating and the quality is obviously not that great. Not to mention that I don’t really sing or play guitar, so just take it for what it’s worth.

This was one of those bucket list things I wanted to do….write and record a song. I didn’t have expectations of making a big hit or anything, just one of those things I felt I had to do. After a particularly awful breakup, it gave me the motivation to write this song, so the link to soundcloud is here:

The Lesson Is

I dedicate this song to anyone who has had their heart shattered. May this song bring healing to you. In particular, to those of you who have ever been ghosted, I hope this song speaks to you. Yes, there is an actual term for this particularly awful way of breaking up that I did not know about until I started looking for answers to why this was so hard to deal with. When the person you spent every waking moment with suddenly leaves and furthermore, wants no contact at all; no explanation, no fight, no phone calls, no texts – turns into a ghost. Now you’re just somebody that I used to know. That sounds like a good song. Oh yes it has already been done, though I never thought it would happen to me. Gotye you had it so right.

Here are the lyrics to “The lesson is”:

Oh I really loved you like I had never been hurt before. So I have no regrets though you just walked right out that door. You could have done this in so many better ways that were healing and revealing. You left a note and walked away.

Chorus

The lesson is love, love, love

And though my heart is breaking it’s not for you. When you open your heart you can give and receive too. But an open heart can get broken through and through. I’ll go on living and forgiving and find myself anew.

I don’t think that you really know the meaning of love. Spent half your life with a married woman you couldn’t even speak of. I was right in front of you not some fantasy. I don’t think that you could handle that reality.

You said I love you, can’t be with you. What does that even mean? Said you were happy nothin in between. When you spoke of the future it was always with me. What changed your mind that now it’s just not meant to be?

Chorus

I will never know why you threw away love. I deserve so much better than being tossed like I wasn’t enough. You have to live with your choices but I didn’t get a say. I gave all my heart. Your love ended yesterday.
